The Hidden Cost Of Illiteracy On Society And The Economy
Illiteracy and lack of access to basic rights like education keeps people away from opportunities that can change their lives. Families remain trapped in poverty. Children lose the chance to follow their dreams. And the whole nation struggles to move forward.
This is still a daily reality in many parts of Dwarka. For many children here, school is a guarantee, it’s a privilege. That is why “education for everyone” is not only a slogan. It’s a need.
Why It Affects All of Us
Lack of access to education or not receiving education may look like an individual’s loss on the surface. But it affects all of us in some many ways. That child grows up with fewer chances to earn, which means lesser opportunities for stability. And when this repeats across families, an entire community feels the weight.
You see it in lower productivity, more pressure on public resources, and even the way inequality widens. Lack of education and awareness definately hurts the person who can’t read, but it also slows down the entire community.
The Price We Don’t Always Count
People often think of illiteracy as a private struggle, but look closer and you’ll see the hidden costs everywhere. Workers who can’t read instructions or adjust to new technology lose jobs quickly. Businesses lose efficiency. The income gap between those who can and can’t read gets bigger every year.
Governments feel the strain too. More spending on welfare and healthcare, less money from taxes because low-paid work doesn’t contribute much. Over time, a country with high illiteracy falls behind in the global economy—it simply can’t compete.
Beyond Numbers: The Human Side
And then there’s what you don’t see in reports. Parents who can’t read struggle to help their kids with homework. Children drop out because no one at home can guide them. That cycle repeats itself. Add to that issues like child labour, early marriages, and lack of awareness of basic rights, and you realize how deeply illiteracy shapes lives.
In places like Dwarka, schools don’t just mean books. They give children a space to dream, to feel equal, to grow up believing they matter. Education, at its core, gives dignity.
What’s Happening in Dwarka
Breaking this cycle isn’t easy, but change is possible when action starts at the community level. Local groups are making it happen in Dwarka. Free classes, after-school support, awareness campaigns, these are small steps, but they add up. Every child who learns to read today breaks a chain that can trap and stop them tomorrow.
