Women Empowerment: A Key To Sustainable Development

Fostering a Strong Sense of Self in Marginalised Women!

Empowerment comes from the word “empower” which means giving someone power over themselves or their own life. Alternatively, the term “Women Empowerment” refers to the various ways in which girls and women can realize their full potential and develop themselves as individuals.

In a nutshell, it is a powerful tool to make women more confident and capable. It is about encouraging and giving women the opportunity to stand up for themselves and be heard.

Women empowerment can be achieved through various channels like legislation, education, awareness, skill training, and health care. It can also be done by having them speak out against the injustices they face, as women are still struggling with gender inequality, sexual abuse, dowry harassment, etc.

Another way to empower women in India is by giving them equal access to employment opportunities so that they can be financially independent and contribute toward nation-building as well as their own welfare. There are many initiatives taken by the Indian government, NGOs like Durga Saptashati in Dwarka and international organizations that promote entrepreneurship among women.

When women in society are treated with dignity and are encouraged to live a fulfilling life- the whole community benefits from it. After all, greater gender equality leads to a more inclusive, happy, healthy, developed, and just society.
